MERRY MONDAY BY PARRIS BAILEY

“He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defense; I shall not be moved.”

“My soul, wait thou only upon God.” — Psalm 62:6.

This morning I woke up and went down to the river. We had a slight freeze so the morning was chilly. The river seemed clearer than usual and there was a mist coming up from the water. I couldn’t help but notice the beauty and it being so calm. Funny how creation understands the faithfulness of God.

John Trappe said “Waiting is nothing else but hope and trust lengthened.” What is God lengthening in you this day? When we rest on His bosom breakthrough happens.

Calvin translates this verse, “My soul, be thou silent before God.” Rest calm and undisturbed. Thine enemies are round about thee, and have sore beset thee thy troubles do surround thee like strong bulls of Bashan; but rest, my soul, in God. Thine enemies are mighty, but HE IS Almighty; thy troubles are grievous, but he is greater than thy troubles, and he shall deliver thee from them. Let not thy soul be agitated. The wicked are like the troubled sea that cannot rest: be not thou like unto them. Be thou calm: let not a wave ruffle thine untroubled spirit. “Cast thy burden on the Lord,” and then sleep on his bosom. Commit thy way unto Jehovah, and then rest in sure and certain confidence.”

Find yourself spinning plates? All the pots are boiling over? I can’t help but think of the song–

“Clear the stage and set the sound and lights ablaze
If that’s the measure you must take to crush the idols
Jerk the pews & all the decorations, too
Until the congregations few, then have revival
Tell your friends that this is where the party ends
Until you’re broken for your sins, you can’t be social
Then seek the Lord & wait for what He has in store
And know that great is your reward so just be hopeful

‘Cause you can sing all you want to
Yes, you can sing all you want to
You can sing all you want to
And still get it wrong;

worship is more than a song

Take a break from all the plans that you have made
And sit at home alone and wait for God to whisper

Beg Him please to open up His mouth and speak

And pray for real upon your knees until they blister

Shine the light on every corner of your life

Until the pride and lust and lies are in the open

Then read the Word and put to test the things you’ve heard
Until your heart and soul are stirred and rocked and broken

‘Cause you can sing all you want to
Yes, you can sing all you want to

You can sing all you want to
And still get it wrong; worship is more than a song”
