OVERTAKEN

Merry Monday by Parris

“And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.” Ex.5:2
I grew up with very little Bible knowledge, in fact most of “my bible” was from watching the famous movies during Easter or Christmas. The Ten Commandments starring Yul Brynner as the great Pharaoh was one of my favorites. “Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice?” was the question posed to Moses by the ill-fated Pharaoh. Pharaoh quickly learns who God is when he tries to chase the Israelites into the Red Sea. We never hear of the great Pharaoh again. Who is the Lord that I should obey his voice? For many of us whether, we would like to admit it or not, we live like a Pharaoh, never giving a second thought to the creator of the universe. But Moses on the other hand, spends his whole life leading a nation under the direction of this God. Let’s read his song he wrote at the end of his life.

“Give ear, O heavens, and let me speak;

And let the earth hear the words of my mouth.

Let my teaching drop as the rain,

My speech distill as the dew,

As the droplets on the fresh grass

And as the showers on the herb.

For I proclaim the name of the Lord;

Ascribe greatness to our God!”

What a sharp contrast between the two powerful men, one that refused to even acknowledge God and one that couldn’t live without God. Where do you fall in your reference to the holy one?

The other day while cleaning the long boardwalk on our property I got caught up in the beauty and greatness of our God. The wind, the birds, the trees towering over me found me overwhelmed. I guess you could say that I spent some time ascribing greatness to God. I begin to sing about his power, his greatness, his thunder, his might, his creation, his love and this new song seemed to be endless. God is your rock and his ways are perfect. His work of creation is perfect and everything works according to his great plan. His ways are truth for he cannot lie and is faithful according to his promises. AMEN!
