“Joshua, no one will be able to defeat you for the rest of your life! I will be with you as I was with Moses, and I will never fail nor abandon you.” -Joshua 1:5 TPT
What an amazing promise Joshua was given by God as he was venturing into a new season of his life. I’d imagine being the successor to Moses would have been intimidating to say the least, So to have a visitation and word from God was exactly what he needed to rise up as Israel’s new leader. And what a word! Victory guaranteed and the fact that God would be with him just as he was with Moses!!! Think about all the ways he was with Moses: The burning bush, Mt Siani, Facing pharoah, the red sea, the cloud by day and the fire by night, miracles, signs and wonders, face to face conversations!! Wow! What more can you ask for right?!
Joshua is a type of Christ. His name means, ” God is salvation”. Jesus was victorious over all his enemies, walked perfectly in sync with the Father, performed many signs and wonders, and completely fulfilled all of the law that was given to Moses. Like Joshua he leads the way into God’s promised land! This land they were to possess was more than just a geographical location on a map- but a spiritual advancement into the fullness of God in their life. We follow Christ’s way of living, thinking, being right into the fullness! And this promise to be with Joshua, The same way he was with Moses and Jesus, the ultimate Savior, is for us as well. He gives us his Holy Spirit!
After Jesus atoning sacrifice for our sins on the cross and his resurrection, he spoke to his followers in a similar way of comfort and blessing! In John chapters 14-17 he tells them he is sending them another helper, the Holy Spirit who would be with them and in them!
Just as Joshua could be assured as he crossed over to lead the way into the promised land, we can take hold of this blessing as well. The blessing of how God would demonstrate his presence with us and work through us by the power of the Holy Spirit. No threats of fear, sin, the devil, scoffers, sickness, delays,or lack can change God’s word to you- He is with you! He is for you and He is working out the fullness of Christ in you!
