NEVER GETTING ENOUGH

NEVER GETTING ENOUGH!

Merry Thursday! by Parris Bailey

“By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not. I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.” SOS 3:1

We always have to go deeper. To some of us, we still talk the same, look the same, and act the same since we said “the sinner’s prayer” a thousand years ago. I hate to say it, but I can tell what decade someone received Christ by how they talk, look and act. But a true Christian is timeless. The bride is always seeking more, even getting out of her “bed of comfort” and going out into the night. She has sensed the distance again in her spirit and she must get closer. We must at times stir ourselves up again to get a hold of Christ. Jesus said the five wise virgins “kept their lamps trimmed and full of oil”.
Charles Spurgeon said, “Tell me where you lost the company of Christ, and I will tell you the most likely place to find Him. Have you lost Christ in the closet by restraining prayer? Then it is there you must seek and find Him. Did you lost Christ by sin? You will find Christ in no other way by the by the giving up of the sin, and seeking by the Holy Spirit to mortify the member in which the lust dwells. Did you lose Christ by neglecting Scriptures. It is a true proverb, “Look for a thing where you dropped it, it is there.”
Our night could represent affliction, trials, or a continued state of apathy that seems to settle in at times in the church and in our lives. The seeker sensitive church of this age is ruining our appetite! It allows little time for worship, preaches a soothing word of niceties and off we go to our nice meal. No wonder we “seek him and find him not!” Jesus on that great day of religious show cried out, “IF ANYONE IS THIRSTY”! Wisdom calls in the streets and begs us to step in and hear, listen, feel and touch. I pray we can be honest with ourselves and say, “I sought him but found him not.” It is time for us to be wholly awake for God. Sometimes, a lot of times, the Lord will hide himself from us to stimulate a larger hunger for Him. He will be found. Mary Magdalen said, “they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.” John 20:13. Thank God, she received her answer. Haha whoo hoo! What a savior! He comes to us always, but get out of that bed and shake yourself. You just might have an encounter that will be timeless!
