MERRY TUESDAY BY PARRIS-
Jeremiah 18:1–6 — “The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it. Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.”
I know I have said a million times that I still wonder at the work of redemption. How God works on the mind, body, and spirit of a man is mind boggling. Every human life is, first of all, an idea in the mind of God. You could say our beings are “Divine productions, embodied thoughts of the Divine heart, the very work of the Divine hands”. (A MACLEOD, Heaven on Earth)
Judging from the condition of our nation, I am not sure we understand that we are the clay and he is the potter. He sits at his wheel and shapes us into vessels of divine use or not. To some it may take years to finally look up and bow before your maker. We are set apart for his use, created to give him glory and be a vessel in his divine sanctuary. He pours into these holy vessels sweet and mysterious things from above. I just can’t grasp how his love overflows while we remain the clay!
Sometimes though the course of time, he has to reshape this divine vessels into new spheres that can hold expanded capacities and shapes us according to his divine will to fulfill the course or job we have been given to do in life. Oh the grace of God! How deep and wide, how long and how high? His ways are past finding out! Learning to wield ourselves to this potter all the days of our life is the task at hand. But thank God for his power that works in us over and again as his spins us on his potters wheel. The powerful hands molding me while he breathes in me his mighty breath. Will you be a vessel of honor? Will you give bent to this ways?
“So place me on the potter’s wheel,
Spin me until
there’s nothing left but you in my life
‘Cause brokenness is what I want
to do a work here in my heart
So when you look at me
you see your reflection”
