Limitless Treasure House of Grace

MERRY MONDAY BY PARRIS BAILEY-

“UNTO ME, WHO AM LESS THAN THE LEAST OF ALL SAINTS, IS THIS GRACE GIVEN, THAT I SHOULD PREACH AMONG THE GENTILES THE UNSEARCHABLE RICHES OF CHRIST!” EPH.3:8

The Apostle Paul was a amazing man. He never tired of telling of his conversion experience. By my dining room table hangs a old painting depicting Saul on the Damascus Rd. The painter draws you right into Saul’s eyes. The word UNSEARCHABLE means TRACKLESS, INEXPLORABLE, INSCRUTABLE. Let’s read this quote: “not in the sense that any part is inaccessible, but that the whole is too vast to be mapped out and measured. It suggests a treasure house of grace, vast beyond all conceiving, so that no matter how far we penetrate there are rooms and corridors opening out in endless vistas, far beyond our capacity of apprehension or of vision. But as our vision widens, the limitless treasure house which unfold themselves to us are always the riches of Christ. He himself is the treasure house, and “from his fullness have we all received, grace upon grace”. (Interpreter’s Bible) Have you found the great treasure house?
Another commentary says this about Paul, “These depths St. Paul sounded with his plummet, but he found them unfathomable. Out of Christ’s unsearchable riches ever-new resources are forthcoming at His Church’s need, new treasures lying hidden in the old for him who can extract them. But His riches, however far they are investigated, remain unsearchable and inexhaustible however largely drawn upon. To Paul the office he held was an unceasing delight. The universalism of the gospel- had burst upon his mind in its unspoiled freshness and undimmed splendor. He is sailing out into an undiscovered ocean, with a boundless horizon. A new heaven and earth are opened to him in the revelation of the Gentiles that are partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus. He is entranced, as he writes with the largeness of the Divine purpose, with the magnificent sweep and scope of the design of grace.” (Expositor’s Bible)
I pray you too spend the rest of your life, digging around the riches of His grace and plummeting the depths of His love. We have been far too easily distracted and pleased with so many other things. I am sorry but I love digging into commentaries! We read in this one; “The riches of Christ’s divinity unsearchable, the riches of his condescension are unsearchable, the riches of His tenderness are unsearchable, the riches of his redeeming love are unsearchable, the riches of His intercession are unsearchable, the riches of his faithfulness are unsearchable, and the riches of His supporting grace are unsearchable. These riches will never be expressed even unto all eternity. No not by the army of martyrs, nor the glorious company of the apostles, nor the goodly fellowship of the prophets, nor the general assembly and church of the first born. (Homiletic Preachers Commentary)
