“While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen or eternal.”
2 Corinthians 4:18
Here at Mary’s Song we have three beautiful fig trees. Once July is here, figs are ripe and we are all able to enjoy the beautiful bounty. You can walk out to the trees in the front yard and at one angle, you may see only two or three figs, but you can walk to another angle and see 10 or more figs right beside the two or three figs. In noticing this, I started thinking about perspective. Sometimes my perspective can get tainted by the world: by things I see, by things I hear, or just things I think.
God sometimes has a totally different perspective than I do. As I learn to see from God‘s perspective, everything shifts. I realize that my failures don’t disqualify me. I realize that nothing can separate me from the love of God. I realize He is for me and not against me. I realize that he chose me from the foundations of the earth and I’m fearfully and wonderfully made in his image. I realize what others say about me, think about me, is none of my business. It’s what he says about me that matters.
Jonathan Edwards writes:
“This world is a mere shadow: The things here are but dreams. In his perspective, our lives and everything within it are merely ephemeral and transient.”
God has showed me that sometimes in different situations if we will just step back and ask the Holy Spirit to help us see things through his eyes we can see things in a whole different light. Instead of just seeing one side, we are able to see all sides and get a better perspective on things. And instead of eating two or three figs, you may just have enough to preserve a few jars.
